Yes, that’s Raza holding Rachael’s son, and yes, he’s screaming. Raza is smiling, but this is closer to how he felt inside when he became a client in a draining legal dispute and then met the tools that came with it.
Raza Khan has done hard things. He co-founded MyRichUncle, a fintech company that grew to trade on Nasdaq, and he knows software from the inside. Nothing prepared him for becoming a client.
He was in the middle of a complex and exhausting dispute with a former business partner when he asked Rachael Kierych, a trusted friend and colleague, to take over as his counsel. The case was already in discovery. As Rachael walked him through the tools lawyers rely on, Raza saw the problems clearly. Where was the security? Why did sensitive information sit with outside vendors? Why did the tools cost so much, and why, after paying for all of it, did the client not even have a login to his own case?
Raza is a technologist, and he didn’t settle for a workaround. He bootstrapped a tool of his own, with Rachael advising on the build, and ran discovery on his case with it. Lawyer and client used it together, through discovery and into trial, and Raza won a $5M verdict.
That first version became Versus. Rachael and Raza have now worked together for almost 15 years, and living both sides taught them what mattered: the client gets a login, the lawyer gets the full picture without the scavenger hunt, and everyone works on the same case in what is designed to be one secure place.
